Unique Learning System® is an award-winning, online, standards-based set of interactive tools specifically designed for students with special needs to access the general curriculum. Used daily in school districts and classrooms across the country, Unique Learning System provides preschool through transition students with rigorous, standards-based materials specifically designed to meet their instructional needs.
Users interact with differentiated, thematic units of study with text-to-speech, interactive components, hundreds of activities and multiple opportunities to show what they know.
Unique Learning System’s differentiated materials provide a means of access to standards-based instruction for students with complex needs. Given appropriate materials and adapted methods for instruction, all students participate in rigorous daily classroom instruction. Each student’s academic profile in Unique Learning System generates his or her instruction. The support levels are:
Level 1: Students require extensive and pervasive support. Increasing participation is the main objective.
Level 2: Students may require symbol support and other direct instruction for learning and comprehension.
Level 3: Students read text, produce simple writing, perform basic math processes, and demonstrate comprehension of modified learning information independently.
Six Grade Bands of Content
Unique Learning System’s grade bands deliver age-respectful, engaging materials for all students. Activities include multiple means of presenting information including static visual representations onscreen, hearing text-to-speech as selected text is read aloud, hands-on learning with experiments and written expression opportunities.
Interactive Lesson Plans
Unique Learning System includes convenient, interactive lesson plans with all six grade bands each month. Lesson plans are embedded with the instructional materials for easy reference. The new lesson plans include Instructional Targets for each activity within the lesson, instructional routines, and academic vocabulary and are always theme-related. The improved Suggested Monthly Plan provides an example of how to sequence and pace the monthly lessons and activities.
n2y uses Instructional Targets to link academic content standards to curriculum content for students with special needs. Instructional Targets are aligned to state educational and transition standards. Monthly lesson plans and materials address these critical skills in reading, writing, math, science and social studies with embedded transitional outcomes.
Unique Learning System’s books, lessons and activities are accessible across a variety of tablets and mobile platforms. This contemporary technology encourages students to engage and explore many types of content independently or under supervision. Customizable settings for voice and highlight combine with navigation tools to create an exceptionally, user-friendly educational mobile experience.
Comprehensive Reading Program
Unique Learning System includes all vital components of a reading program in each grade band from preschool through transition. Created and verified by reading experts, each element of a full reading program is evident in all six grade bands.
Reading instruction, approaches, and methods as well as reading materials, are included in each of the six grade bands in Unique Learning System. Additional leveled books are included in the n2y Library—a searchable collection of more than 1,000 titles to access and use with students!
Comprehensive Math Program
Unique Learning System delivers standards-based assessments and direct instruction in a complete math program for the following: one-to-one correspondence, number sense, time, measurement, graphing, telling time, geometry, algebra and more.
Math materials are presented in multiple ways with visual presentation, auditory cues, onscreen manipulatives, offline practice, printable pages, and application opportunities. Learners have multiple alternatives for expressing what they have learned through acting out math scenarios, manipulating interactive math materials, and applying math skills in everyday situations.
Data Driven Instruction
Unique Learning System’s GPS (Goals, Preferences and Skills) has been refined and upgraded to identify student, classroom, and program goals. Users are able to track identified goals and show growth with customized, intuitive graphs. All assessment data is stored on the n2y secure website which allows for students’ learning outcomes to be monitored and tracked over time.
The GPS includes the following individual assessments:
• Profile: Indicate a student's current abilities in their grade-level academic Profile. There are four profiles available: Self-Help, Preschool, K-12 Student Learning and Transition. Each profile provides suggested levels of instructional support and strategies for overcoming barriers to learning.
• Benchmarks: Collect baseline data and monitor progress in selected areas of reading, writing, and math.
• Checkpoints: Provide pre-assessment and post-assessment measurements of monthly unit content and skill learning.
• Core Rubrics: Address transition readiness skills in the areas of employability, communication, self-advocacy, daily living, and social strategies.
• Transition Planning: Facilitate future planning for High School and Transition-aged students.
The n2y Library is a searchable collection of more than 1,000 leveled books available for your classroom. Search, find and use books based on reading level, subject area or keyword. Interact with books online using text-to-speech, highlighting and interactive tools, or print for offline instruction and enjoyment.
