About the Presenters
Kurt Hulett, Ph.D.
Dr. Hulett is a leading special education author and educational consultant, where he advises special-education-focused companies and school districts as they help students with disabilities. He has extensive experience in school administration, including over 10 years as a school principal, Vice President of Research and Development for Pearson Assessment, Special Education Director of Legal Compliance for Henrico County Public Schools, and Governor-Appointed Officer for the Office of the Secretary of Education in Virginia. Dr. Hulett has a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Special Education from James Madison University, a Master of Education in Special Education from the University of Virginia, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.
Zelphine Smith-Dixon, Ed.D.
Dr. Smith-Dixon has a longstanding history of improving achievement for schools in SC and GA. She was the State Director for the Division for Special Education at the Georgia Department of Education and has served as the Board President for the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE). Dr. Smith-Dixon currently serves as a key stakeholder and/or cadre advisor for the National IDEA Data Center, National Technical Assistance Center on Transition, Gates Foundation K-12 Education to Work Foundation, and the National Center on Intensive Intervention. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Columbia College, a Master of Education in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Faith Dumais, M.Ed.
Faith has five years of experience in special education. She has taught self-contained special education classrooms at both middle and high school levels. She currently teaches a Transition to Adulthood classroom where she focuses on pre-vocational skills, independent living, and community-based instruction for her students. Faith earned her bachelor’s degree in Special Education Adapted Curriculum and her Master of Education in Special Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has teaching licenses in both adapted and general curriculum special education.
